How to Get More Clients As a Teacherpreneur

Have you ever wondered how to find more clients?

 

Or maybe you are happy with your leads right now but also ready to think about new ways to grow your audience and your leads?

 

Oftentimes, when I’m speaking with clients they are looking to work with people like themselves. So my teacherpreneur clients are looking for other teachers, my business coaches are looking for other coaches, etc.

 

This can be one of the key reasons why they don’t sign clients as quickly as they should.

 

Here’s why: When I started my online coaching business I wanted to work with other full time teachers.

 

I thought for sure it would be an easy yes for teachers because after all, I was just like them. So I showed up where teachers showed up…and instead of hearing an easy yes, I found resistance.

 

My potential clients had the same hang ups that I was working through in my own coaching. They were nervous around investing in themselves and were listening to the stories of being “just a teacher.” 

 

They didn’t think that it was okay for teachers to charge a high ticket for their knowledge (or even to charge).

 

I knew if I wanted my business to work I was going to have to get in front of new audiences and change my messaging.

 

Here are the 3 steps I did to grow my audience, sign clients and have a six figure year in business:

🎥 Step One: Go LIVE on a social media platform. 

 

For example, you could host a room on Clubhouse where you share tips or even a short training session whether people come or not. 

 

Or maybe you are going live on Instagram, Facebook, Tik Tok, or YouTube. The whole idea is that when we go live we are teaching about something very specific.

Notice that the title of this post is how to get more clients as a teacherpreneur - it’s super-specific. You teach for a shorter amount of time whether that is seven minutes or 10 minutes. But this isn't meant to be a 60 minute workshop because if you do that you need to charge people. 

 

This is just meant for you to get up on stage and talk to people, share a little tip, make someone's day brighter, or give them a tool and start breaking down the fourth wall. 

 

Not going live? I want to encourage you to do it. Whether it is for three minutes or slightly longer, start showing up and talking with your audience. There is another reason why this is so important: 

 

All the platforms are prioritizing video and Clubhouse audio. 

 

If you are using those features, you're going to see more leads, you're going to see more growth and you will grow faster. 

 

Even with Instagram reels, for example, they are similar to going live because now they have engagement tools with them. So I want to encourage you to take step one, go live. 

 

👥 Step Two: Start to network in spaces where your ideal client is, especially if live events are a possibility.

 

When I first started networking, I thought attending happy hours was networking. While happy hours can be fun, they are not always the prime place to meet your next client or referral partner. 

 

If you're looking to meet clients, I want to encourage you to think about where else can you network? What organizations could you be joining to find communities where your ideal client might be? 

 

Living in NYC I have been able to attend networking events at different co-working spaces, and I've gone to different membership organization events. Yes these are investments of time and money but they are also places where I have connected to clients, referral partners, and more.

 

For me, being a member at Luminary in NYC has been a great example of investments returning. When I started attending events, networking as a coach and sharing my expertise, I saw my business grow exponentially. In fact, my first group program was filled with 80% Luminary members.

A next step for you could be to start to think about where are the spaces where your ideal client is hanging out and how can you get involved? How can you make that investment?

 

Sometimes we are nervous about making investments because we're afraid they won't pan out; here’s a very real way that a networking group could help you: If you are a teacher looking for supplies for your classroom or you're a podcast host looking for guests, being connected to other people in other industries can be really powerful.

 

While these first steps are powerful, they are not the way I grew my email list by 1000 people in just a few days. That was done via a business summit.

 

💰 Step Three: Join different summits or different bundles where you can give your materials out for free. 

 

If you already have a business, you most likely have lead magnets or free resources that you can be sharing. You might even have a workshop that you know delivers results and by getting that in the hands of your ideal client you can make more sales and more impact. 

 

I also know many people get nervous when they share their knowledge for free. You might even be that person, afraid if you share your best work people won’t want to work with you.

 

And that can be true. Some people only are seeking free resources. They aren’t your people.

 

Offering a resource in a summit or a bundle allows you to borrow an audience. This is a key way to get in front of your ideal client and get visible.



When people sign up for your resource, you get their email address. This is so powerful because with an email address you can create relationships and nurture people inside of your own email funnel. 

 

Bundles and summits can be intimidating. But if you have the opportunity to join one, I encourage you to give it a go.

 

Finding clients can seem like a full time job at times. Yet, with these 3 strategies you can create a system for growing your audience and creating more leads. Start with just one of the three and see what is possible.
